Why It Makes Sense to Prevent Stretch Marks

There is a big difference between curing and preventing a conditions like stretch marks. For most people however, it makes better sense to prevent stretch marks. Read on to discover why and how you can prevent stretch mark signs.

Stretch Marks

Most people often imagine scars as lines or slightly elevated lines on our skins that can cause irregularities on the skin surface. What some people do not know is that stretch marks, although they seem to be located under the skin, are also scars. Since scars are notoriously difficult to completely remove, the best solution would be to prevent stretch marks.

Weight Control

A lot of individuals who have stretch marks get them because of a rapid increase in weight or an expansion of the body. The more and the faster you gain weight, the more stretch marks you will develop. Anyone can get stretch marks but they are most obvious among teenagers and pregnant women. Teens normally undergo a growth spurt and may sometimes even begin to increase their food intake. Pregnant women also begin to expand and may even have an improved appetite too.

Some doctors may recommend safe diet guidelines for both overweight teens and pregnant women to prevent stretch mark scars. Aside from maintaining the right diet, exercise may also be recommended to help prevent stretch marks. Teens should maintain the recommended weight for their age and height while pregnant women should gain no more than 25-35 extra lbs. during pregnancy.

Eat Healthy

Aside from following your doctor’s instructions to limit food intake, you can also prevent stretch marks by eating right. Eat foods that will provide you with your recommended daily allowance of vitamins, minerals, proteins and carbohydrates. A daily dose of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meat and low fat dairy can provide you with the right nutrients that can promote elastic and strong skin. Skin elasticity may just be a natural way to prevent stretch marks.

You should also avoid junk and processed foods that may provide you not only with potential toxins but with trans and saturated fats, both of which can increase your fat stores and overall weight.

Keep Hydrated

There is some evidence that a lack of hydration can make your skin cells dry, less elastic and more prone to tearing. You should therefore make it a point to naturally hydrate yourself by drinking a lot of water everyday. You can also ask your doctor for a good moisturizer or natural stretch mark product that can keep your skin moisturized and rejuvenated.  Click here for alternative ways to prevent stretch marks.
